This week the Muskingum University football team was set to play Otterbein College who is national ranked 18. The Muskie's came out and on the Card's first series Dennis Hicks came up with a big interception. The Muskie’s would drive all the way down the field only t kick a field goal that would be missed. With a strong effort by the defense they would force the Card's to punt. Muskie’s would be the first to put points on the board with a 30 plus yard touchdown pass from Jake Burns to Ben Smith. Otterbein would set up a drive that would lead them to seven. With a Muskie punt that would land on the 13 it was the defense this time that would put points on the board with OJ scooping up a fumble and running it in for the touchdown. With about four minutes left the card's would score on two long touchdown passes and a short yard run for a touchdown, They would take the lead 28 to 14 in the first half.
In the second half there was not much to be down with each team scoring one single touchdown the Card's also added a field goal. The final score was 38 to 21 with a tough lose for the Muskie’s. The Muskie's showed great improvement from week one to this week. There will need to be great improvement this week for the Muskie's because they will travel to Mt. Game one at Defiance

The Muskingum University football team opened up the 2009 season with Defiance. This is the Muskie's only non-conference game and it was played at Defiance. If you did not attend the game you missed a nail biter. The game came down to throw that was caught by senior D. Sutton in the back of the end zone by was ruled incomplete by the back judge. In the first half Defiance lead seven to zero. The Muskie's defense was really strong forcing defiance to punt on many occasions. The Muskie's offense had a rough start partially because they only saw the field 27 times in the first half. This was due to a couple of turnovers off of punts.
During the second half it was Defiance who put more points on the board but this time the Muskie's came up with a huge PAT block. This put the score at 13 to zero. That would be the last touchdown Defiance would score. In the fourth quarter it was all Muskie football. After a big catch made by Polaski the Muskie's scored. After a big stop by the Muskie defense the offense returned to the field to drive about 80 yards in less than five minutes. That's just what they did and with about a minute left the tying touchdown catch was ruled incomplete giving the Muskie's their first lose of the season.
